Session Structure and Instructor Responsibilities
Our programs run throughout the full academic year, with 15 weekly sessions per semester (30 total per course). Sessions take place after regular school hours in the afternoon. You may sign up for as many courses as you'd like — we recommend committing to 1–4. For each course you're assigned to, you'll lead 30 sessions across the year.
Each session runs 45 minutes, divided into three equal parts:
-
Interactive Discussion: this segment focuses on reinforcing curriculum concepts through live discussion, questions, and explanations on the board.
-
Immersive VR Experience of Curriculum Aligned Content: Students put on VR headsets to explore simulations of the presented topic. Physics sessions might include scenarios like free-fall, electric circuits, or the twin paradox. Biology sessions might explore the heart’s anatomy, cell or DNA structure
-
Immersive VR Experience of Subject Enrichment Content: Students explore VR simulations of an enrichment topic. Physics sessions might include scenarios like exploring a Mars base, a nuclear reactor, or talking with a famous scientist from the past, such as Albert Einstein. Biology sessions might explore cell biology or anatomy in more depth.
How we will support you:
-
Curriculum Training: We offer a streamlined training session covering the lesson structure and discussion materials.
-
VR Equipment Training: You'll learn how to handle, charge, and operate the VR headsets safely and effectively. We’ll also show you how to access and navigate the educational software inside the VR environment to support student learning.
You will be responsible for:
-
Preparation: Review the provided topic guides and curriculum materials in advance. With A-level performance in STEM at UCI, this prep will be straightforward.
-
VR Equipment Readiness: Ensure headsets are charged and fully functional before each session. We supply extra units for backup and promptly replace any malfunctioning devices.
-
Transport & Storage: You’ll be responsible for transporting the VR headsets to the assigned school site and keeping them securely with you (typically in your car) between sessions for easy access.
-
Facilitating Discussions: Lead the 15-minute introductory and closing discussions, helping students connect core concepts to the VR experience.
-
Student Support During VR: Assist students as they navigate the VR simulations, answer questions, and help them stay engaged with the content.
-
Operational Oversight: Ensure the session runs smoothly and safely, including managing headset usage and troubleshooting as needed.
